A Place for God’s Name

I Kings 8

Did God ever really live in a building?

The Canaanites thought he did.
And God seems to move in to the temple?!?!?

Why build a temple for a transcendent God?

Temple is a place where God comes to us.

God comes to us in history.

The poles were still there.

God comes to us in Shekinah glory.

and in the incarnation (Galatians 4:4)

and in the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

and very soon in the clouds (Revelation 1:7)

Temple is a place where we come to God.

III. The church is God’s living temple today.

Wherever believers gather in his name. (1 Peter 2:4-12)

A place where God comes to us and we to him. (Hebrews 10:21-25)

God desires a place for us to be together with him in spite of our many failures.
