1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11
The Day of the Lord is the event of God’s coming to establish his reign on the earth to rescue the righteous and punish wicked men who continue to rebel against his gracious authority. Paul wrote these comforting words to the Thessalonian church to answer their concerns about believing brothers and sisters who had died before the return of Christ
I. Believers who have died are now with Jesus.
II. Rapture: The dead in Christ will rise and living believers will be changed.
The day of the Lord is a day of wrath as well as rescue.
III. God’s wrath will come suddenly.
“While people are saying, Peace and safety, destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” (5:3)
IV. Believers belong to the day.
Conclusion: We don’t know everything about the return of Christ and eternity in heaven. We only know as much as the Holy Spirit has revealed to us in Scripture. But that is enough to give us hope and for us to persevere in faith and love.
